Stonetable publishes reference sheets about rocks, minerals and field identification for general information and education. It is not professional geological, mining, engineering, safety or legal advice, and it must not be relied on as such. Any decision you take about land, property, exploration, construction or the handling of a material is your own responsibility.
We work to keep the physical properties in each sheet correct and we correct errors when they are reported. Even so, the site is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose or non-infringement. Mineral and rock properties vary between specimens, published values differ between sources, and field conditions change. Verify anything that matters against a second source, and against the rock in your hand.
Field work is inherently risky. Rock faces are unstable, cliffs and quarries are dangerous, mine workings and spoil heaps carry chemical and structural hazards, and several minerals described on this site are toxic by inhalation or ingestion. The hazard notes in each sheet are a summary, not a complete risk assessment. Wear eye protection when breaking rock, do not work under an overhang, do not enter mine workings, wash your hands after handling sulfide and lead minerals, and never taste material from industrial or mine sites. You are responsible for your own safety and for obtaining any permission required to enter land or to collect.
Rules on collecting geological specimens differ by country, state and site, and many sites are protected. It is your responsibility to know and obey those rules. Stonetable does not give permission to collect anywhere, does not publish locations of protected material, and does not authorise access to any land.
The text, the generated plates and the site design are protected by copyright and belong to the site operator unless stated otherwise. You may read, print and quote the site for personal, educational or journalistic use with attribution and a link. You may not republish sheets in whole or in substantial part, sell them, or present them as your own work. Systematic copying of the collection, whether by hand or by automated means, is not permitted.
The site carries advertising supplied by third parties and may link to external sites. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, accuracy or practices of third parties, and a link is not an endorsement.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site operator is not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential or special loss, or for any loss of data, profit or opportunity, arising from your use of or inability to use this site, or from reliance on anything published on it.
Sheets are added and revised continuously, and the site may change or be discontinued in whole or in part at any time without notice.
